Men’s Fashion at Goodwood Revival 19th-21st September 2008
The Goodwood Revival has a fairly relaxed dress code - in keeping with the fancy dress element of the spectacle, unless visitors qualify for central Paddock access, in which case a jacket and tie is necessary for gentlemen, and a dress or suit for ladies. In the main, effort in poured into looking like a genuine 1940’s, 1950’s or 1960’s throwback.
Outfits for the Gentlemen at Goodwood Revival
A gentleman will always look debonair wearing a blazer, turn-up flannels, accompanied by a cravat, a Panama or Homburg hat and don’t forget a touch of Brylcreem, of course. A rolled-up umbrella, cigarette holder or eye-glass will finish off a top-class and sophisticated look that even Cary Grant or Terry Thomas would admire.
Brompton hats £40
Blazers from £90
Brylcreem from £3.19
Men’s Umbrella £10
A country gentleman might wear a sports jacket, trousers and braces, with check shirt, tweed hat or flat cap, and a woven tie. Accessories could include a pipe, binoculars in leather case and a shooting stick for that ‘James Herriott’ look.
Kinloch flat cap £25
Check shirt £48 by Hackett
Braces from £10
Binoculars from £18
Perhaps you might prefer a mechanic’s white cloth overall (with charcoal for oil stains), leather boots, and accompanied by a flat cap, leather belt and clockwork stopwatches; alternatively, be a ‘rebel’ and dress as a Mod or Rocker!
Hereford Flat Cap £20
Men’s Black Leather Belts from £25
This particularly chunky belt is a Gant black leather belt, priced at £45, available here.
Caterpillar Black Boots £69.99
A man in uniform is always a pleasant sight for the ladies, so why not wear an Army or RAF uniform from the period - in keeping with Goodwood’s WW2 RAF history?
If you can’t make it to the Goodwood Revival itself, try out the Goodwood “slick and spokes day”, which, at £365 means that “You could be behind the controls of a svelte E-Type Jaguar, a rumbling V8 AC Cobra, a majestic Aston Martin or a scintillating Porsche 911 RS”.
